Face Coverings Must be Worn in North Carolina COVID 19 July 2020

The Town of Nags Head is operating under a State of Emergency

Town offices remain open; however, we are strongly encouraging the public to conduct their business with the Town either via the phone or online. Note that entry to the administrative office for the fire department is limited. You can reach them at the phone number below (as always, call 911 for an emergency).

    The Fire and Ocean Rescue Department’s administrative offices are closed to the public to keep our staff healthy. As always, call 911 for any emergency. Non-emergency calls can be made to Dare Central at 252-473-3444.

Water Service and Other Miscellaneous Payments (Such as Tax Payments)
All residents are encouraged to conduct Utility or other Miscellaneous Payments Online OR by depositing your payment in our Town Hall Utilities Payment Dropbox (located outside by the Town Hall flag pole) OR by calling the Town offices at 252-441-5508 and making your payment over the phone during normal business hours (Monday-Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm)

In accordance with the Governor’s Executive Order 142, residential water account disconnections for nonpayment are suspended through 11:59 pm July 29, 2020.  In addition, no new penalties or late fees will be applied during this time.

Through 11:59 pm on July 29, 2020, residential water accounts:

  • will not be disconnected for non-payment
    • will not have new penalties for late payments imposed, or be pursued to collect on current penalties due
    • will be offered a payment plan for up to 6 months (please email water@nagsheadnc.gov to be put on a payment plan)
    • will continue to be provided information about account balances
    • will continue to be responsible for paying their water bills

Late payments on residential water accounts will be considered deferred, not erased. Disconnections and penalties will be reinstated July 30, 2020.

To pay online visit https://selfservice.nagsheadnc.gov/MSS/citizens/UtilityBilling/ and have your account number available. Please email water@nagsheadnc.gov to sign up for e-billing or to arrange automatic drafts.

    Trade permits can now be applied for and issued online. Additionally, in some cases we are able to make arrangements over the phone or by email to coordinate the submittal of building permit applications and materials, issue permits and take payments.

  • Nags Head’s Planning Department is using video technology to conduct live remote inspections. This technology can be used for trade permit inspections like HVAC change-outs, meter base change-outs, electrical service upgrades, water heater change-outs, trench inspections for electrical, gas, or plumbing permits, and possibly other applications as agreed upon by the inspector and the applicant/contractor.
